Ready to Make a Difference?

Volunteering is all about giving your time to help others, whether it's lending a hand to a neighbour or joining a community group or non-profit organisation.

There is a huge variety in the types of roles and levels of commitment you can make with your volunteering these days, including:

  • Long-term Volunteering: Your ‘classic’ style of volunteering – regular, rostered, ongoing commitments. Great for those looking to add consistent volunteering to their weekly or fortnightly calendar.
Examples include: Welcome Desk at the Museum, Committee roles on incorporated boards.
  • Short-term Volunteering: Usually project-based types of roles – something that spans a few weeks to a few months, but has a definitive end date.
Examples include: Joining onstage or behind the scenes in a production at the Bijou Theatre or Gallery Sitting an exhibition at the Cannery.
  • Micro Volunteering: Quick, ad-hoc tasks perfect for those with busy schedules.
Examples include: Wrapping Christmas presents with Esperance Care Services or packing envelopes.
  • Event Volunteering: High-energy, low-time-commitment roles. Help bring local events to life by committing a day or two of your time!
Examples include: assisting with the Shire’s Edge of the Bay or Rotary’s Carols by Candlelight.
  • Emergency Volunteering: Sporadic and spontaneous types of roles. This may be with an organisation that has consistent training sessions to keep skills honed for emergencies; such as St John’s, the Bushfire Brigades, or State Emergency Services. Or it can be in rapid response to catastrophic events – e.g. signing up to make lunches, wash uniforms, or run town-based errands for those on the front-lines, like the Bushfires of 2015 and 2021.
  • Corporate Volunteering: Corporate or employee volunteering takes place when employees of a company perform volunteer work through their workplace. Corporate volunteering is a fantastic way for organisations to give back to their local community. Generally corporate volunteering takes two forms: activity-based volunteering and skills-based volunteering. Depending on the nature of the role, such activities may be undertaken by one employee or a team of employees. Corporate volunteering activities may be organised internally by liaising directly with volunteer involving organisations, or through an intermediary, such as a volunteering support service, who plan and manage the activity.
