Esperance Overflow Campground

This service is managed by the Shire of Esperance and only opens when all other commercial caravan parks are fully booked out. The Overflow Campground is not designed or intended to be a destination in itself. Due to capacity limits, accommodation cannot be guaranteed.
Before travelling to Esperance, please make a booking at a caravan park or campground.
Camping outside a dedicated camping ground or caravan park in Esperance is illegal. Patrols are undertaken and fines apply.
The Overflow Campground is located at the Greater Sports Ground, entrance via Black Street.
The Shire aims to make the camping experience enjoyable for visitors, however facilities are very basic.

There is Zero Tolerance for abusive language and aggressive behaviour within the campground. Any breach will result in immediate eviction.

Bookings for the Overflow cannot be made. It is first in, first served. Due to capacity limits, accommodation cannot be guaranteed.

The Shire of Esperance is in a Prohibited Burning Time. This means no fires are to be lit in the open air. Gas & electric barbeques are permitted.

CAMP RULES
While staying at the Esperance Overflow, please respect each other and enjoy your time.
- Camping is permitted only in the areas identified on the map. Please keep within your allocated bay.
- No camping on the sports ovals or internal roadways.
- Camping under trees is not recommended.
- Your campsite must be kept and left tidy.
- Wastewater disposal is not permitted. A designated “dump point” is located on Shelden Rd at no charge.
- The maximum speed within the Overflow is 8km/h.
- Campers Kitchen will be open: 5:30am - 9am / 11:30am - 2pm / 5:30pm - 9pm
- Vehicles must be parked in an orderly manner, or as directed by the Camp Host/Shire Ranger and/or Shire of Esperance Staff.
- Dogs permitted. Dog must be on a leash within the campground, and under the control of a responsible person at all times. Cleaning up after your dog is your responsibility. Dog poo bags and bins provided.
- When camp overflow is full, a 7 day maximum stay will apply.
- Check out time is 10am, charges may apply for non-compliance.
- Strictly NO FIRES! Gas and Electric BBQs are allowed at any time.
- Dispose of recycling and rubbish in bins provided:
- Recycle - use the yellow lid or blue bins,
- General Waste - use the red and green lid bins
- Bulk bins available for larger items at the Campers kitchen.
- There is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for abusive language and aggressive behaviour towards any staff or caretakers. Any breach of this rule will result in immediate eviction.
- Smoking is only permitted in your designated bay. No smoking is allowed in any other area of the Overflow. Cigarette butts must be disposed of appropriately.
- In respect of others, please mop out cubicles after showering.
- Generators can only be used between the hours of 8am-12pm and 4pm-8pm.
- Noise restrictions apply from 10pm.

Do I need to book accommodation before coming to Esperance?
Yes. Esperance is a long way from anywhere and books out very quickly, especially over the summer period. If you want the guarantee of a place to stay, book ahead.
Can I book the Overflow?
No, bookings are not accepted for the Overflow Campground. The Overflow Campground is designed for those arriving in town with nowhere to stay.
Where are the free camps in Esperance?
There are no free camps in Esperance. Camping at designated campgrounds, caravan parks or the Overflow over the summer period are the only options. Rangers carry out patrols, and illegal camping attracts a $200 fine.
Can I camp at Membinup Beach?
No. There are a number of beaches that are day use only and camping at these sites is not permitted. There are designated campsites at Munglinup Beach, Quagi Beach, Alexander Bay and within the National Parks
