Pet Ownership

Pets are a much treasured part of the family in many Esperance homes, however owning a pet is also a responsibility that should not be taken lightly. Ranger Services are responsible for enforcing the local and state laws relating to animals.

Registering your pet

In accordance with the Dog Act 1976 and Cat Act 2011, all dogs over the age of three months and all cats over the age of six months must be microchipped and registered with Shire of Esperance. Failure to register your dog or cat may result in a fine of $200.00.

You can register your pet for one year, three years or for a lifetime. The registration period runs annually from 1 November to 31 October. This means that 1-year and 3-year animal registrations expire on 31 October, no matter which month your pet was registered.
