Youth Friendly Community Report
The Shire of Esperance Youth Friendly Community project was titled the ‘Communities for Youth’ project.
Stage one - In March 2015, the Shire of Esperance actively engaged and sought input from young people, aged 12 to 25 years, through the ‘Communities for Youth’ project. The aim of the project was to identify what young people perceived as important for a community to be youth friendly as well as to identifying how to improve or better the Esperance ‘place’ or ‘experience’ for young people.
Stage Two – Following the completion of the stage one project, the Shire of Esperance was offered additional funding to support the next stage of the project. Commencing in November 2015, the Shire of Esperance engaged youth in prioritising the stage one report outcomes. In April 2016 an Esperance Youth Summit was delivered which reviewed the top priorities and youth developing project concepts to support a youth-friendly Esperance community.
This project was funded by a grant received from the Department of Local Government and Communities with support from the Shire of Esperance and a number of community champions who supported the project and/or engagement activities.
The Youth Friendly Communities Reports have been developed, written and aimed at the whole of the Esperance community and stakeholders, as potential investors in our youth.
