Teal Dell'Agostino
Teal has demonstrated exceptional talent and dedication in her sporting pursuits, making significant strides in both basketball and netball. She was the runner-up Most Valuable Player for the Year 5 Girls in the Esperance Basketball Association, a testament to her skills and impact on the court at a young age. Her impressive performance secured her a spot in the WA 12 and Under State School Girls Basketball Squad. Being selected from a pool of 120 girls down to just 12 highlights her outstanding ability and potential. At an incredible level, Teal's team achieved remarkable success, winning a bronze medal at National's. This accomplishment showcases her capability to compete and excel at higher levels. In addition to her basketball achievements, Teal has also excelled in netball. She was part of the Talent Development Squad team last season.
Aiden Finlay-Mulligan
Aiden, excelling in both squash and AFL, has achieved remarkable feats at local, state, and national levels. In squash, he represented Australia at the 2024 British Junior Open and secured third place in the Under 17 division at the Australian Junior Squash Championships. Aiden's state-level success includes winning the Plate in the Open Division at the WA Squash Open and the Junior Open Division at the same event. Locally, he was runner-up in the Esperance Club Championship Open age group and played a key role in Goldfields' victory in the A Grade competition at Squash Country Week.
In AFL, Aiden captained the Ports Football Club U16s and played for the Colts side in a Grand Final victory and was selected for the Subiaco Futures team, where he played five games in Perth. He also represented Esperance in a match against Kalgoorlie, earning the Best on Ground accolade. Aiden's dedication, versatility, and leadership in both sports bring immense pride to his local community and inspire aspiring young athletes. His exceptional contributions make him a strong candidate for the Southern Sports Junior Sports Star award.
Jordanae Leitu
In netball, Jordanae plays in Division 2 and regularly and has achieved numerous accolades, including ENA Senior Competition Junior Achiever of the Year 2024 and selection in the Division 2 All Stars. She also coaches a Junior 2 team and was named Fairest and Best Player in her Junior 1 team. In basketball, Jordanae represented Country WA in the Under 16s team, won the grand final at the BWA Championships, and was selected for the Great Southern Development Academy for 2024/25.
Jordanae began her netball career with Esperance Netball Association in 2019 as a Junior 4 player. She has represented ENA at various championships and earned a spot in the Great Southern Development Academy. Her dedication, skill, and sportsmanship make her a key player at local, state, and national levels. She is a supportive teammate and a respected Junior Coach, known for her composure and skill, making her a remarkable role model and an up-and-coming level 1 basketball umpire. The association is incredibly proud of her accomplishments and looks forward to supporting her future netball journey.
Kianna Manu
In her primary sport of basketball, Kianna Manu has excelled significantly. She was part of the TDS Breakers U15’s Country Champs Basketball team that competed in Perth in February. Her achievements also include being part of the Esperance Junior Basketball Girls A Team, which became champions, and the TDS Breakers Women's A basketball team, where she was named Fairest and Best Player.
In netball, she has shown her versatility by playing for the TDS U14’s Netball Team. Her high achievements in basketball are noteworthy, having been part of the BWA Southern Cross Challenge U15 Girls State team that won the championship in Melbourne in January 2024. She also competed in the BWA U16 Country Women's SPP Team at the Australian Junior Championships in Gold Coast in July 2024, further highlighting her remarkable skills and dedication.
Harlem Moore
As the top goal scorer with 25 goals in the 12-13s league, Harlem led the Redbacks to a league win. He was also the top goal scorer for TDS in the 14-16s League and contributed significantly to the Gibson football club's minor premiership and grand final victory. Harlem's outstanding season in soccer saw him finish as the top goal scorer for the Redbacks, scoring crucial goals, including a decisive double in a 2-1 win to seal the title. His versatility allowed him to excel in multiple positions, and his leadership on and off the field inspired his teammates. Harlem was selected for the 2024 Country Week 12-13s team, where he helped them finish 4th in a 10-team competition, showcasing his ability to perform consistently at a high level. His stellar performances earned him a spot in the Goldfields state team, making him only the second player from Esperance to achieve this honour. The team will travel to Thailand for a competition in December.
Harlem's fitness, skill, and fair attitude were evident throughout the season, making him a standout player. The soccer association is extremely proud of Harlem's achievements and believes he deserves recognition for his exceptional performance and dedication.
Carta Tawhiao
Carta Tawhiao has made a significant impact in junior basketball, being named Runner up MVP, team MVP, and Highest Scorer for both the 22/23 and 23/24 seasons, finishing 2nd on the ladder each season. His exceptional skills on the court were further recognised with the 2023/24 Esperance Breakers Coaches Award. In junior football, he has played over 85 games, excelling in the 2024 U14s season with the Best on Ground in the Grand Final against Newtown, runner-up Fairest and Best for the Association, and Fairest and Best for U14 for Gibson.
Carta's high achievements include trailing, being selected, and representing WA in the 2024 Southern Cross Challenge in Melbourne, highlighting his exceptional talent and dedication. Additionally, he led his team to victory in the 2024 Basketball WA Winter Classic U14 Boys Division 3, becoming champions. His outstanding performance across both sports showcases his versatility, commitment, and athletic prowess, making him a standout athlete.

Isabelle Cox
Isabelle boasts an impressive array of achievements and awards, representing the Esperance Pony Club locally, nationally, and internationally. Her local accomplishments include the 2023 Hills Plain Award for exceptional representation, achieving C Star qualifications, and multiple top placements at the 2023 Esperance Agricultural Show, including 1st in Showjumping 1.10m and 2nd in Windy's Top Cut Out 17yrs & Under.
Her high achievements are equally remarkable. Isabelle was a junior team member at the 2023 International Virtual Showjumping Championships, placing 3rd with her team. She excelled at the 2023 National Pony Club Championships (Tetrathlon), securing 2nd overall and winning special phase awards. She also achieved individual placings at the 2023 National Pony Club Championships Australia (Eventing) and 1st in a show jump class during the 2023 National Exchange team in China. In 2024, she continued her success with top placings at the WA State Tetrathlon Championships and strong performances at the International Tetrathlon Championships in Ireland and the UK. Her dedication to Tetrathlon, along with her partnership with her horse, Effie, has been a key factor in her success

Gibson Football Club Under 14s
The Gibson Football Club's U14 Team had an exceptional year in the 2024 Season, guided by a dedicated volunteer Coaching and Management Team, including Coach Ash Weckert, Team Manager Alana Dixon, and First Aiders Madi Symes, Josh, and Tegan Sullivan, along with supportive parents. The team committed to twice-weekly training sessions, displaying strong sportsmanship and dedication both on and off the field, adhering to the "Gibson Football Way" of Respect, Resilience, Sportsmanship, and Dedication. They exemplary included players from lower grades, always encouraging and leading by example. The U14 team was respectful to all umpires, officials, and opposing teams, consistently showing gratitude and good sportsmanship.
The Gibson U14 Team proved to be a powerhouse in the 2024 competition, consistently performing at a high level throughout the 12 rounds of the season. They went into the finals undefeated and secured the Premiership with an impressive finishing percentage of 655.63%. Their dedication and teamwork have set a strong foundation for their future, both on and off the field, and serve as a great example for youth sporting activities. The team's respectful and inclusive approach, combined with their success on the field, marks them as an exceptional group with a promising future.
Esperance Netball Association Mallee 1s
As the Mallee NC President under the Esperance Netball Association, I nominate our Division One - Mallee 1 Ladies Netball Team for the "Team Sports Stars Achievement Award" for 2024. The Mallee 1 Team has achieved an incredible milestone by winning the Esperance Netball Association Division 1 Grand Final for the third consecutive year. This remarkable achievement is even more impressive as the ladies’ self-coach and train themselves each week. While the core team has remained relatively unchanged over the past three years, they have successfully transitioned players from lower divisions and welcomed new members, emphasizing the development of junior players. Many of the team members are busy mums and active community members, involved in various sports, volunteering, coaching, and working within Esperance. This year, five out of the nine players were selected to represent Esperance in the Open Division for the Netball WA 'country week' competitions. The Mallee 1 Team triumphed throughout the ENA competition, remaining undefeated with one drawn game, and clinched the Grand Final as reigning premiers.
The Mallee 1 Team's achievement of winning three ENA Grand Finals in a row showcases their talent, hard work, and unwavering dedication to the sport. Their success is a testament to the commitment of each player, the support from the Mallee Club Committee, and the encouragement from their family and friends. This extraordinary streak reflects the team's exceptional teamwork, strategy, and perseverance. It is inspiring to see this group of women consistently perform at such a high level, setting a remarkable standard in Esperance Netball. We celebrate their victories over the past three years and look forward to even more success in the future. Congratulations to Mallee 1 for their well-deserved recognition as this year's Team Sports Stars Achievement Award for 2024.

The Rams dominated the 2024 season, showcasing exceptional talent and teamwork to secure the title of Men’s Premiers. Their outstanding performance culminated in a spectacular Grand Final victory. Nick Crane was a standout, earning the titles of Best on Ground in the Grand Final and highest goal scorer for the season, demonstrating remarkable prowess and leadership on the field. His relentless drive made him a key player. Digby Graham also shined, earning the Runner Up Fairest and Best award for his dedication, sportsmanship, and all-around excellence. The Rams' success is a testament to their hard work, unity, and exceptional talent, with the accolades garnered by Nick Crane and Digby Graham highlighting individual brilliance within a team that has truly set the standard for excellence.

Esperance Soccer Country Week Under 11s
The Esperance Soccer Association nominates the Under 11 country week squad and coaches Aidan Sinnott and Brett Whitting for Team of the Year. The team competed in Football West's Country Week 2024 Circati Under 11s B League held in Perth at Olympic Kingsway's ground. Competing against ten teams from across WA, the Esperance team played two games a day from September 23rd to 26th, finishing with a record of 8 games played, 7 won, 1 drawn, and 0 lost, scoring 36 goals and conceding only one. Their outstanding performance earned them a place in the grand final against a strong Karratha side, where they triumphed 3-1.
This team exemplifies the values of the association, with seven players in their first season of soccer playing crucial roles. Despite their inexperience, these players performed admirably, working well as a unit and ensuring everyone played their part. Esperance has been in the top three in this age group for the last five years, consistently earning praise for their fair play and style of play. The team demonstrated exceptional dedication, training twice a week for three months before the tournament, showcasing their commitment and hard work.
Open Sports Star of the Year
Tom Edwards
Tom has had an impressive year in the Esperance Senior Men’s Hockey competition, which features five competitive teams with players aged 13 and above. As a senior player and Captain of Castletown Hockey Club, Tom won the Fairest & Best for the men’s competition. He is an executive committee member for the Esperance Hockey Association and serves as the men’s captain and coordinator, working closely with the women’s captain and coordinator. His duties include setting up fixtures, making weekly announcements, allocating team duties, sending nominations for Country Week and Great Southern Carnivals, maintaining the ladder, tracking yellow and red cards, voting and counting for Fairest & Best and Highest Goal Scorers, liaising with the Senior Umpire Coordinator, presenting reports at monthly Association General Meetings, presenting awards, providing each team with vote counts and goal scorer tallies, acting as a key holder, preparing match cards, and addressing controversial issues with the committee.
In addition to his administrative roles, Tom umpires in junior and senior men’s and women’s competitions, mentors’ new umpires, and is a member of the 2024 EHA Umpiring Panel. He attended the Season Opening Umpire Workshop and a Hockey WA Umpire Briefing by Angela Edwards from Hockey WA. Tom also organized Men’s Country Week, handling entries, accommodation, and player coordination, while also participating in the event. He took on the role of Mentor to the new Development Officer and assisted in a Coaching Workshop. Tom's skills as a player, mentor to junior players, and valuable member of the association make him a standout candidate for recognition. His high achievements include winning the 2024 Men’s Association Fairest & Best and participating in the Men’s Regional Country Week championships.
Dannii Newton
Locally, Dannii was named Division 1 Most Valuable Player and selected for the Association All Stars Team. She also made the U20s team representing Esperance and served as the captain of the U20s Esperance Netball Team. Her leadership and skills on the court have been truly commendable.
Dannii's achievements at higher levels are equally impressive. She represented Esperance at the Fuel to Go and Play Association Championships and the Great Southern Championships, and was selected to be part of the Great Southern Academy. She was named the Fairest and Best player for the U20 team at the Fuel to Go and Play Association Championships. Known for her incredible speed, agility, and exceptional accuracy in shooting, she received the most votes for the season in Division 1 by a landslide, showcasing her remarkable impact and performance.
Shire of Esperance Veteran Sports Star - Winner
Stephen Butler
Stephen has had an impressive year both with his home club and in representative cricket. As the main driver for Esperance Masters, he performs consistently well. He was selected for the Over 55 and Over 60's National Veterans Cricket Championships Division 1, scoring 203 runs from 8 matches, including two fifties. In total, Stephen made 879 runs from 27 matches last season, with seven not-outs, and took 27 wickets. He captains the B Grade Newtown Cricket Club team, holding the team together through recruiting and his on-field performance.
Stephen's high achievements include participating in the National Veterans Cricket Championships Division 1 Over 50's and Over 60's, winning the Masters Over 50's, and earning the Batting aggregate and average award for the ECA Season. Off the field, Stephen is dedicated to improving the game for himself, his club, and the community. He has served on the Esperance Cricket Association Committee and as a Newtown Committee member for many years.
Horizon Power Sports Star of the Year - Winner
Terri Herbert
Terri has shown outstanding commitment in the Esperance Senior Women’s Hockey competition, featuring seven competitive teams. As a senior member and Captain of the Condingup Women’s Hockey Club, she has been the president and a committee member for seven years. This year, her team made it to the finals but lost in the semi-final. Terri also serves as the Esperance Hockey Association Secretary since 2022, organizing and coaching a Hook into Hockey Junior Hockey Program at Condingup Primary School. She is a senior women’s umpire, officiating games regularly. Terri was awarded EHA’s Fairest & Best award and came second in the Highest Goal scorer votes with 18 goals. She was also a finalist for Umpire of the Year and the “John Walsh Award” for the best ‘all-rounder’ association member. Additionally, she represented the Esperance Hockey Association at the CBH Women’s Country Championships in Perth, playing for the Masters Div 1 team, which finished fifth in their first year in the top division. Terri has been the Esperance Hockey Association Secretary for three seasons, attending all executive and management meetings and all but one general meeting. Her role includes advising members of meetings, taking minutes, keeping records, updating Facebook, managing correspondence, maintaining a key register, and more. She is also a member of the EHA Turf Committee, working to bring a synthetic surface to the Esperance shire, and helped organize the annual presentation night. Terri has been the Condingup Club President and a committee member for seven years, focusing on collating member history and records. Her dedication and contributions to the hockey community are truly commendable.
In her exceptional year, Terri's O45 women’s gold team won the bronze medal at the 2023 Women’s Masters Tournament in Perth, where she was also awarded the team contribution award for her tenacity and fair play. She was then selected for the Australia A Team to represent Australia at the 2024 Masters World Cups in Cape Town, South Africa. During the 2023 Condingup Hockey Club awards night, she received the Fairest & Best, Players Player Award, and 3rd Highest Goal Scorer awards. In March 2024, she participated in the WA Masters State Hockey trials and was selected for the O40 women’s team to compete in the 2024 Women’s Championships in Sydney, where WA finished 4th, and Terri was named WA’s best on ground. She was also awarded the Women’s Fairest & Best and Runner-up Highest Goal Scorer at the EHA awards night in September 2024, and later at the Condingup Hockey Club awards presentation, she once again received the Fairest & Best, Players Player Award, and Highest Goal Scorer awards. Her achievements highlight her remarkable talent and commitment to the sport, making her a standout player and leader.

Stephen Baker
Steve embodies the spirit of surf lifesaving with unwavering commitment, leadership, and passion for nurturing the next generation of lifesavers. This season, he has been our most committed club member, coaching and participating in surf sport training, organizing Sunday morning club days, and encouraging youth involvement in the Nipper program. Over the past three years, Steve has tirelessly volunteered his time, introduced the four pillars of Surf Lifesaving to local schools, and significantly increased youth participation. His inspiring and educational efforts have been recognized by club members and visitors alike.
Steve’s leadership extends to sensitive discussions on club sponsorships, particularly the Woodside Nipper Partnership, fostering community engagement through local clean-ups and sustainability efforts. His dedication is also evident in projects like the “10 Mile Collection,” where he helped repurpose beach waste into unique art pieces. Beyond coaching, Steve organized funding for skill development sessions, volunteered with the Emergency Response Team, and managed logistics for youth participation in carnivals. His positive attitude and relentless support make him a cherished figure at EGSLSC. Steve's contributions elevate our club and instill vital lifesaving skills and values in our community, ensuring a safer and more engaged beach environment for everyone. Steve is truly deserving of this honor, representing the best of the surf lifesaving movement.
Natasha McCarthy
Natasha McCarthy has been an active member of the Esperance Hockey Association since 2018, taking on pivotal roles such as ladies' umpire coordinator and joint women’s captain. She revamped the competition to focus on social engagement, ensured the smooth running of the ladies' competition, regularly umpired senior games, mentored younger players, and served as Country Week team co-captain and Mallee’s captain. Natasha contributed significantly to the windup committee and volunteered on the umpiring board, securing a $5000 Heathway Grant for the club’s kitchen facilities. In 2024, she served as the Senior Umpire Coordinator, organizing umpiring duties, arranging mentors, and hosting workshops. Her dedication earned her a spot on the EHA Dream Team 2024 and involvement in the senior ladies' competition and CBH Country Championships.
Natasha has attended every monthly association meeting, presenting reports on umpiring allocations and issues, while maintaining professionalism in addressing conflicts. Since 2021, she has been a crucial member of the Association's Surface Redevelopment sub-committee, aiding fundraising efforts and the EHA's CSRFF submission for State Government funding. As the EHA social media coordinator, she enhanced communication and created the "Whistle Wednesday" rule highlight. Natasha developed an umpire register to track credentials, ensuring all umpires stay updated. Her high level of officiating earned her the title of "finals umpire" and a nomination for EHA’s Women’s Umpire of the Year, which she won again this year. Natasha’s inclusive approach, strong communication skills, and genuine interest in officiating have made her an exemplary role model and a key part of our community.
Olie Jones
Olie has been instrumental in revitalizing the club since he became president, driven by his desire to "get my kids a game of football." His enthusiasm is unparalleled, dedicating over 20 hours a week to running, supporting, and developing the club. He coaches several days a week, spends Sundays refereeing or coaching, and dedicates Saturdays to preparing the field. Olie has initiated development programs to increase playing opportunities and has actively promoted football in all Esperance schools. During country week, he fully immerses himself in coaching and supporting other coaches and players. Olie also runs summer soccer events, mentors’ players on technical skills and sportsmanship, and maintains contact with former players to continue supporting their development.
Beyond his coaching efforts, Olie donates his work skills to the club, improving its facilities and leveraging his Perth contacts to create opportunities for visiting teams. His commitment extends to marking lines for matches and engaging with youth who share his passion for football. His tireless efforts have resulted in over 300 juniors participating in the 2024 season. Olie's dedication and ability to foster positive behaviors and good sportsmanship through football have made a significant impact on the community, making him an invaluable asset to the club.
Fiona Ryan
Fiona is a devoted supporter of her hockey-playing family, always on the sidelines every Saturday. She is our dedicated Volunteer Canteen Manager, often arriving at the grounds by 7am and staying until the last shift, sometimes as late as 8pm. Fiona assisted in the kitchen upgrade to ensure meals could be provided through the season. She prepared manuals and policies to ensure hygiene and food preparation standards are adhered to. Fiona has improved the menu with healthier options, does most of the cooking herself, and stocks supplies during the week. Her food is a sure hit in the canteen. She attended most junior carnivals this year, providing meals for the kids and parents, traveling to events, and handling all the preparation and cleanup. Fiona also organized all the food for the four junior grade grand finals and windup presentations, as well as the senior grand final day and evening. She attended our season opening Busy Bee to prepare the kitchen and the cleanup at the end of the season. Fiona is always volunteering and covering duties whenever needed, known for her big smile and can-do attitude.
In recognition of her immense contributions, Fiona was awarded the EHA 2024 John Walsh Award, given to the best 'all-rounder' association member. Fiona’s dedication and effort in running the kitchen week after week are incredible. She puts in countless hours and hard work with our juniors behind the scenes, which most people don’t know about. Her involvement in the kitchen has been transformative, ensuring a high standard of food and hygiene, and making healthier options available. Fiona’s support extends beyond the kitchen, as she is always ready to volunteer and help out wherever needed, making her a beloved figure around the grounds. Her commitment, enthusiasm, and tireless efforts are truly commendable.
Amy Walter
Esperance Netball Association would like to nominate Amy Walter for her ongoing dedication and commitment to the No Limits Netball Program in Esperance. Although she may be unknown to many general netball players, her volunteer hours and passion for the No Limits Netball Program do not go unnoticed in our community. Having observed Amy over the past few years and watching the young people grow and develop in the program, it is clear that she is absolutely amazing and deserves recognition. Amy runs the No Limits Netball Program, welcoming children and young adults of all genders with mental or physical disabilities to play inclusive netball. Participants have a range of disabilities, including Autism, ADHD, Dwarfism, learning difficulties, and limb deficiencies. Amy coordinates, coaches, and umpires’ sessions, often by herself, providing respite for parents and creating a social setting for them. This inclusive program is a blessing for Esperance, and parents deeply appreciate Amy's efforts.
This year, Amy took some of the children to Perth to participate in the Fuel to Play and Go Association Member Champs weekend with their fellow No Limits players from other regions and players representing Esperance Netball. She sourced her own funding and sponsorships for the program and helped the No Limits athletes participate. Despite only having a few players able to attend, Amy coordinated to borrow players from other teams in Perth, allowing them to compete. Her dedication and commitment are truly remarkable. By highlighting her passion and ongoing commitment to the No Limits Program, we aim to ensure continued support for Amy and her athletes and create awareness for those unaware of the program. We hope to inspire more athletes to join and expand the program's success and encourage other sports to implement similar inclusive programs.
Tash Woodhouse
Tash has achieved remarkable success in various sports, particularly in golf, where she has won numerous individual and team trophies at the Esperance Golf Club. She was the first female to win the xx trophy in 2015 and has continued to excel, winning multiple medals and competitions, including the Esperance Jubilee silver spoon and the Goldfields Classic. Tash was also part of the Valadeen sailing crew, winning several first-place flags during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 sailing seasons. Historically, she excelled in athletics, being the Champion female athlete in the Outlying Esperance districts from 1981 to 1984, and continued to shine in basketball and netball, winning various regional championships in the early 1980s.
In hockey, Tash has been a dedicated player since 1985, first playing for the high school team and later for the Legs XI team. She has coached the Legs XI team, completed her Level 1 Coaching Certificate, and has been a junior coach since 2017. Tash organized and coordinated the Junior Carnival, ensuring junior players had opportunities to play competitive turf hockey. She represented Esperance at the CBH Women’s Country Championships and played for Western Australia in several tournaments, including the 2019 Gold Coast tournament and the 2022 Cairns event, winning a bronze medal. Tash was selected to represent Australia in the 2024 Masters World Cup in Auckland, New Zealand, and continues to train and compete at a high level. Her commitment to supporting and encouraging juniors to experience playing on turf reflects her love of hockey and her dedication to the sport and the community.
Anthony Wynne
EBA would like to nominate Anthony Wynne for his outstanding contributions to the Esperance Basketball Association. His unwavering commitment and dedication to our community have significantly elevated the standard of basketball in our region. Since joining the association committee in 2019, Anthony has proven to be a vital asset, demonstrating exceptional leadership and vision. As the President for the 2022/23 season, he guided the association with integrity and enthusiasm, fostering a positive environment for players, coaches, and volunteers alike. In his role as Junior Coordinator from 2022 to 2024, Anthony has passionately championed the development of our youth programs, ensuring that young athletes receive the support and resources they need to thrive. He has been instrumental in enhancing the skills of our players and coaches, leading to a more competitive and inclusive basketball community. He is currently back in his role as the Head of Development.
Anthony has also served as the Breakers Coordinator from 2020 to 2024, successfully organizing and managing teams, providing opportunities for players to compete at higher levels. His commitment to coaching is evident, as he is the highest accredited coach in the Esperance Association. He has coached multiple junior teams and Breakers teams, consistently instilling a love for the game and a strong sense of teamwork among his players. Anthony's contributions extend beyond his official titles. His passion for basketball and dedication to community engagement have inspired countless individuals to participate and excel in the sport. He is a role model for aspiring coaches and players alike. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly commend Anthony Wynne for his exemplary service to the Esperance Basketball Association. Esperance Soccer Country Week Under 11s
The Esperance Soccer Association nominates the Under 11 country week squad and coaches Aidan Sinnott and Brett Whitting for Team of the Year. The team competed in Football West's Country Week 2024 Circati Under 11s B League held in Perth at Olympic Kingsway's ground. Competing against ten teams from across WA, the Esperance team played two games a day from September 23rd to 26th, finishing with a record of 8 games played, 7 won, 1 drawn, and 0 lost, scoring 36 goals and conceding only one. Their outstanding performance earned them a place in the grand final against a strong Karratha side, where they triumphed 3-1.
This team exemplifies the values of the association, with seven players in their first season of soccer playing crucial roles. Despite their inexperience, these players performed admirably, working well as a unit and ensuring everyone played their part. Esperance has been in the top three in this age group for the last five years, consistently earning praise for their fair play and style of play. The team demonstrated exceptional dedication, training twice a week for three months before the tournament, showcasing their commitment and hard work.
Gibson Football Club Under 14s
The Gibson Football Club's U14 Team had an exceptional year in the 2024 Season, guided by a dedicated volunteer Coaching and Management Team, including Coach Ash Weckert, Team Manager Alana Dixon, and First Aiders Madi Symes, Josh, and Tegan Sullivan, along with supportive parents. The team committed to twice-weekly training sessions, displaying strong sportsmanship and dedication both on and off the field, adhering to the "Gibson Football Way" of Respect, Resilience, Sportsmanship, and Dedication. They exemplary included players from lower grades, always encouraging and leading by example. The U14 team was respectful to all umpires, officials, and opposing teams, consistently showing gratitude and good sportsmanship.
The Gibson U14 Team proved to be a powerhouse in the 2024 competition, consistently performing at a high level throughout the 12 rounds of the season. They went into the finals undefeated and secured the Premiership with an impressive finishing percentage of 655.63%. Their dedication and teamwork have set a strong foundation for their future, both on and off the field, and serve as a great example for youth sporting activities. The team's respectful and inclusive approach, combined with their success on the field, marks them as an exceptional group with a promising future.
Esperance Netball Association Mallee 1s
As the Mallee NC President under the Esperance Netball Association, I nominate our Division One - Mallee 1 Ladies Netball Team for the "Team Sports Stars Achievement Award" for 2024. The Mallee 1 Team has achieved an incredible milestone by winning the Esperance Netball Association Division 1 Grand Final for the third consecutive year. This remarkable achievement is even more impressive as the ladies’ self-coach and train themselves each week. While the core team has remained relatively unchanged over the past three years, they have successfully transitioned players from lower divisions and welcomed new members, emphasizing the development of junior players. Many of the team members are busy mums and active community members, involved in various sports, volunteering, coaching, and working within Esperance. This year, five out of the nine players were selected to represent Esperance in the Open Division for the Netball WA 'country week' competitions. The Mallee 1 Team triumphed throughout the ENA competition, remaining undefeated with one drawn game, and clinched the Grand Final as reigning premiers.
The Mallee 1 Team's achievement of winning three ENA Grand Finals in a row showcases their talent, hard work, and unwavering dedication to the sport. Their success is a testament to the commitment of each player, the support from the Mallee Club Committee, and the encouragement from their family and friends. This extraordinary streak reflects the team's exceptional teamwork, strategy, and perseverance. It is inspiring to see this group of women consistently perform at such a high level, setting a remarkable standard in Esperance Netball. We celebrate their victories over the past three years and look forward to even more success in the future. Congratulations to Mallee 1 for their well-deserved recognition as this year's Team Sports Stars Achievement Award for 2024.

The Rams dominated the 2024 season, showcasing exceptional talent and teamwork to secure the title of Men’s Premiers. Their outstanding performance culminated in a spectacular Grand Final victory. Nick Crane was a standout, earning the titles of Best on Ground in the Grand Final and highest goal scorer for the season, demonstrating remarkable prowess and leadership on the field. His relentless drive made him a key player. Digby Graham also shined, earning the Runner Up Fairest and Best award for his dedication, sportsmanship, and all-around excellence. Caleb Shipp
Caleb volunteers his time every week to umpire juniors and to mentor upcoming junior umpires.
He is a role model to our junior players, being a Year 12 student, Caleb plays in our U17 competition. He is a skilful player who the younger kids look up to and his passion for the sport shines through in his game play and his officiating. Caleb has a fantastic attitude, both on and off the field. He actively seeks feedback from senior umpires to continue to improve his own level of officiating. He is confident in his calls, yet open to feedback when it is provided. He is a fair and reasonable umpire, and he adapts to the level of hockey he is umpiring. For the younger grades he is very active, to ensure that players are understanding why and how the rules are being applied. In the Senior competition he displays clear authority, despite his young age. Caleb completed the foundation lead umpire accreditation and was assessed by Rodney Johnson at Narrogin for his Level 1. Caleb umpires from the J4/5 and J6/7/8 competitions, right through to senior men’s and women’s. He also mentors up and coming umpires teaching them the basics and sharing his knowledge of the game.
Caleb was also nominated by Esperance Hockey Association for the Hockey WA Service to Officiating Award for 2023. He is a confident and competent young man and an asset to our Association.

As a member of the Esperance Motor Cross some of Zanes achievements include winning Club Champion for 250cc 13-16yrs, and 2nd in Club Champion 125CC, he was the joint winner of Robbie Austin Award – Junior Club Member of the Year. He completed at WA Junior State Motocross Championship (WAMX) and represents Esperance in the 14MX Development Team. Zane also competed for Esperance Junior Fire Brigade some of his achievement include being awarded Esperance Junior Champion Firefighter of the Year, Goldfields Zone Championships Runner Up Champion Firefighter, Kellerberin Regional Championships Champion Fireman and WA State Junior Fire Brigade Championships

Charlie rode for Esperance Motocross some of his accomplishments this year include winning EMCC Championships 125CC Juniors, 2nd EMCC Championships 250CC Juniors, he was the Joint Winner of Robbie Austin Award – Junior Club Member of the Year. He also competed at WAMX State Motocross Championship Series as both a Junior and Senior and represents Esperance in the 14MX Development Team. In football for Gibson FC he was selected to play up into Colts division, and for Esperance Basketball Association he was the highest scorer for his age group.

As a player for the Esperance Netball Association some of Molly’s accomplishments have included being selected for Division 2 All Stars Team, selected to represent Esperance in U16s at regional level and selection for the U16s Regional Team to represent Great Southern for the State Cup in Perth. Molly was also awarded MVP for her Junior Team.

As a player for Esperance Hockey Association some of Rachels achievements include being awarded highest goal score for Bacchus Team which she captained and coached and the Association highest goal scorer. Captained the winning team for Challenge Cup to a minor premiership and Grand Final Premiership. Also in Lawn Bowls she has represented Esperance in Inter League 4s in Katanning and Inter League pairs in Kulin, her team won the Esperance Professions Day, Scaddan Ladies Singles Champion, she was Invited to attend Southern Bowling Zone Country Coaching Enrichment Scheme and played in the Grand Final Winning Team of the South East Coastal Ladies Pennants

Plays for Newtown-Condingup Football Club, some of his achievements this year have included, Runner Up Fairest & Best – Hepburn Medal, Freddy Curnow Footballer of the Year, Dale Fisher Medal – NCFC Fairest & Best League Player, NCFC Clubs Most Consistent League Player, Berwyn Davies Medal Winner - Best of Ground in the League Grand Final. Selection for the EDFA All Stars Team of the Year 2022, EDFA Best on Ground in the Belt Up Round 2022.

Adelina Timms – Esperance Netball Association
The junior committee started the season without a President this year. But still with a wonderful group of volunteers. While past committee members were still available to assist in setting up the season, there was one who has been on the EJNA committee for many years stayed on the committee this season in doing so much to ensure junior netballers still had a safe and enjoyable environment to be able to play the sport we all love. She has 4 children, a full time job and still managed to complete all of her volunteered tasks (score sheets, vote cards) as well as reminding the committee each week of tasks that needed to be done to ensure the smooth running of the season.
Once this season, she even had to jump on a game to umpire (and while she isn’t a regular umpire) did a lovely job.
Addie has played netball for a long time in Esperance and we know does a lot for her club Newtown Netball also.
Niccole Cooper – Esperance Hockey Association
This year and over the past few years Niccole has been the Esperance Hockey Association’s President in 2021 and 2022, a Junior committee member, Turf Feasibility committee member. She has coached Under 17’s and Co-ordinated the Grade. Niccole is a Junior & Senior Umpire and is a mentor to Junior Umpires. A captain and coach as well as delegate for her own team in the Senior competition. Niccole has coached teams and umpired, as well as been involved in the overall organisation of Narrogin Junior Carnival and has attended many Women’s Regional Country Week often as team captain.
On top of this, she is always willing and able to put her hand up to help out with anything hockey. She is a calm, level headed leader, approachable and has a good rapport with players, coaches, umpires and spectators alike.
Fiona McDonald - Esperance Netball Association
Fiona has bought a new level of professionalism to our sport and committee. She has ensured that ENA has a strong governance and facilitated the updates of our constitution and by-laws, along with documenting our policies and procedures. Discussion on committee is encouraged and decisions made with a level head and determination to ensure fairness.
Fiona is no longer playing but has picked up the whistle and umpires both within the association and for the association at regional tournaments. She was this year selected to be an umpie at the Netball State Cup.
Fiona represents ENA on a number of committees including EDRA, Great Southern Netball Association and was heavily involved in the winding up of the Goldfields Regional committee with our move to the Great Southern Region, being a member of the Great Southern Working Group.
Fiona is passionate about women’s sport and in particular women supporting each other in sport. She is empathetic, encouraging and in her catch cry “Plays like a Girl!”
