Drop Off Recycling
Most materials can be recycled, but many cannot go in your recycle bin at home. By taking your items to local drop-off points, you can help minimise what we send to landfill.

Hard to recycle items
There are recycling stations at the Administration Building and Library where you can drop off all globes and fluorescent tubes, mobile phones, handsets and accessories and chargers, hair & beauty products, Nespresso coffee pods, and household batteries.
Never bin a battery. They are hazardous and commonly start fires at landfills and in collection trucks.

What can be included?
Glad you asked. Here’s some examples:
- Packaging for lipstick and lip gloss
- Eye makeup packaging such as mascara tubes, eye shadow containers, and eyeliner
- Bronzer, foundation, and concealing packaging
- Shampoo and conditioner lids - the bottles can go in your recycle bin at home
- Hair gel tubes/caps along with hair spray/hair treatment packaging
- Moisturiser
- Soap dispensers and tubes
- Lotion dispensers and tubes
- Shaving foam packaging and all spray nozzles
Important info:
- No full containers – please make sure they’re rinsed and empty (or as close to as possible).
- No aerosol cans, however the nozzles and lids can be dropped off. Aerosol cans go in your recycle bin at home.
E-Waste
E-waste refers to any discarded electrical or electronic device that has reached the end of its useful life. This can include computers, TVs, small household appliances, white goods, A/V equipment, and other electronic devices, which can be dropped off for free at the Wylie Bay Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).
Construction and Demolition Waste (C&D)
The types of waste generated from C&D include unsuitable materials from building sites prior to construction as well as waste from the construction phase or during the demolition of buildings. This includes bricks, pavers, roof tiles, rocks and rubble. When delivering this material, it must be free from dirt, steel and hazardous materials such as asbestos.
Wylie Bay Waste Facility stockpile this stream of waste and periodically crush it into aggregate that can be reused as landfill cover, used to construct tracks or for road base. This process diverts the material from landfill and avoids wasting valuable void space.
For large volumes of commercial waste or Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste and Asbestos, you need to obtain approval from the Shire and then schedule the date and time of drop off. Please see the Commercial, Construction, & Demolition Waste Enquiry Form.
