WARCA is a state-wide community education institution for 18+ year olds. We focus on providing free opportunities for the community to learn about recovery related to mental health, substance use or other life challenges. Our educators bring expertise gained through lived experience and expertise through training or profession to design and deliver courses. The College is funded by the Mental Health Commission and was a key election promise from the McGowan government. Our courses are available locally in Esperance, as well as online and in other regions of WA.
Our reach is wide – we run courses publicly, as well as privately, for specific organisations and groups supporting people who may be facing challenges. Some of our recent work includes partnering with prisons, carer groups, therapeutic communities, multi-cultural groups, and folks seeking employment.
We also run our Educator Foundation Program which provides local people with the skills and knowledge they need to become an educator for WARCA. Anyone in the community can be an Educator – the only criteria is that they have wisdom and experience to share with others, primarily to help navigate the challenges of life and increase a sense of wellbeing and community connection. Along with the skills and tools needed to become an educator, the EFP covers topics that relate contemporary and progressive thinking around mental health and is an excellent opportunity for free professional development.
We look forward to seeing you on a WARCA course soon!
