Ageing Graham MacKenzie Stadium to be Replaced

At the May Ordinary Council Meeting, an important decision was made regarding the ageing Graham MacKenzie Stadium. Council voted to award the $6.1 million project to a local building team. The project will see the current stadium demolished and a new three-court, multipurpose stadium built. The new facility will accommodate existing users and provide opportunities for new sports and activities.

Over the next 18 months, the Shire will work closely with stadium users, stakeholders, and builders to navigate the logistical challenges of the replacement of the Graham MacKenzie Stadium as well as repairs to the Esperance Indoor Stadium during sporting events.

The replacement of the stadium has been on the Council's agenda for many years. Other avenues of refurbishing the stadium have been investigated, with the option to demolish and rebuild the best for long-term safety and community investment.

The Graham Mackenzie Stadium Project activates a healthy and active community and aims to increase participation in sports and recreation activities, as outlined in the Council Plan 2022-2032.

Despite the anticipated difficulties, we are confident that with the support of our incredible community and team, the outcome will undoubtedly justify the effort.
