Changes to Caravan Parks and Camping Regulations

The Shire of Esperance has led the way in support of alternative accommodation options for our region, with practical solutions and vigorous advocacy for our community.

The State Government recently announced changes to the Caravan Parks and Camping Grounds Regulations 1997. These changes shift responsibility from the State Government to local governments across WA, obliging them to process temporary accommodation approvals for camping. This includes approval of caravans and tiny homes on wheels to be located on a property up to 24 months.

Council will receive a briefing on this in September, and a Policy to manage this new process to a high standard is being created, and is planned to be presented  at the October Ordinary Council Meeting for endorsement.

With the very short timeframe the Shire has been granted between the Ministers announcement and the implementation date for staff to administer these changes, please bear with us as we work out the best way to streamline this new approvals process while prioritising public health and safety.
