The Shire is proud to support off-peak tourism initiatives with seed funding prompted by the Esperance Tourism Strategy – the next of these initiatives is the spectacular inaugural Grounded Hiking Festival, coming to Esperance and surrounds over three days from 20 to 22 September. The hikes during this festival cater to different abilities and interests, with an additional free Unity Hike tailored for participants with special needs or abilities, or as a self-guided experience.
The Grounded event offers even more than hikes, with our community challenged to collectively hike the distance around Australia during September. Participants can sign up for the Strava app to take part – and win prizes from Bistro Louis, Down to Earth and Barbeques Galore. Also on offer during Grounded is the Grove to Table Culinary Journey, hosted by Fervor and Heyscape at Yirri Grove, and cultural experiences with local tourism business Dabungool. Booking for hikes and other events during the festival is required, check out all the details here and at Grounded Hiking Festival on Facebook.
The Grounded Hiking Festival is a first in another way as well – it’s the first event to take advantage of the new Esperance Tourism Branding themes and resources. Hikes are inspired by the elements of water, fire, space, earth and air, aligning to the new branding and the result of months of work with local tourism operators and other stakeholders.
The official launch of the Esperance Tourism Brand, ‘Esperance - In Your Element’, will see all the details and resources released, ready for use by our region’s tourism operators. The common themes of the new branding are designed to appeal to visitors wanting genuine experiences, longer stays and close encounters with nature. Workshops will be held on the 24th and 25th of September by Euphorium; known for enabling big-thinking communities, who will work with local tourism operators and community members to activate the brand.
