A new walking trail to Hammer Head East Beach, also known as Yellow Sands Beach, was constructed by the Shire of Esperance last year after heavy degradation and the presence of dieback caused the closure of a deteriorating maze of 4WD access tracks.
Keeping the beach easily accessible after the dangerously eroded tracks were closed was a priority. Knowing how important an unspoilt coastal environment is to the community, planning for the walk trail began.
The newly constructed 60m of walk trail connects from an area at the end of the 4WD-only access track from Nares Road through bushland to open granite, where an additional 310m across open granite leads to the pristine Hammer Head East Beach. This fantastic new community asset allows access the beach without harming the beautiful coastal environment – and gives everyone the opportunity to enjoy a safe, car-free beach!

The new trail is part of the coastal restoration works being completed under Stage 3 of the Shire of Esperance’s Coastwest funded project “Protecting Tjaltjraak Boodja Park”.
We hope you enjoy this beautiful new trail and appreciate the hard work that went into preserving our stunning coastline. Keep an eye out for our more information on how this prized environment is being protected, and happy walking!
