Partnership for Pool Play

Bay of Isles Leisure Centre staff recently jumped at the opportunity to provide free aquatic area access to eligible children under the KidSport Regional Pool Program. When the State Government announced the Program in October our staff swung into action to find a way for it to work in the Leisure Centre’s existing fee system, liaising with KidSport and the Dept of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries (DLGSCI) to provide eligible children free access to the pool for the summer period.

It was determined that a special six month pool membership fee would be created; under the Program, this is paid by the DLGSCI and pool entry is free for the children. The KidSport Regional Pool Program promotes physical activity, water awareness and safety, and aims to reduce barriers to participation in community sport and fitness for low-income families.

Our Council also responded quickly to this emerging opportunity, wholeheartedly supporting the fee changes to make this great chance for free fun at the pool a reality. All these efforts are now paying off for our community, with a steady stream of signups for the new six month pool membership under the Program – make sure you spread the word about this fantastic chance for free pool fun!

The KidSport Regional Pool Program is offered over and above the existing KidSport Grants provided to eligible children and families. Information on the Program, including conditions for eligibility, can be found on the DLGSCI website here, and the Shire’s Senior Club Community Development Officer is available on 9071 0609 to provide support applying for these funds.
