Prescribed Burns - Autumn 2024

Residents and Visitors of Esperance, please be advised that the Shire of Esperance Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade, Parks & Wildlife, and Volunteers and Staff from DFES will conduct Hazard Reduction Burning Activities near the Esperance town site. 

These burns are planned for Autumn 2024, weather permitting.


LOCATION: BOREFIELDS, west of Esperance town site

PURPOSE: To reduce overall fuel loads to approx. 5-7tn/Ha to establish a low fuel buffer zone to reduce the threat of running fire impacting the Pink Lake, West Beach & Sinclair.
BURN SIZE: 342Ha - Burning Cell 1 & Cell 6, with tidy up works in Cell 2, 4 & 5.
LOCATION: Area bounded by Thompson St Track, Barook Rd, Tuart Forrest Gr, Eleven Mile Beach Rd, Esperance Pde, Cherry Well Rd and Connolly St in Pink Lake; as per map below.


LOCATION: TOOWACKA Reserve, west of Esperance town site

PURPOSE: To reduce overall fuel loads to approx. 5-7tn/Ha to establish a low fuel buffer zone to reduce the threat of running fire impacting the Pink Lake, Monjingup communities.
BURN SIZE: 46.7Ha
LOCATION: Area bounded by South Coast Hwy, Collier Rd, Keenan Rd and private properties in Monjingup; as per map below.


LOCATION: SKROLY PARK, west of Esperance town site

PURPOSE: To reduce overall fuel loads to approx. 5-7tn/Ha to establish a low fuel buffer zone to reduce the threat of running fire impacting the West Beach area.
BURN SIZE: 22.33Ha
LOCATION: Area bounded by Thompson St, Amelia Cct, Twilight Beach Rd & Connolly St in West Beach; as per map below.


LOCATION: STEARNE RD, west of Esperance town site

PURPOSE: To reduce overall fuel loads to approx. 5-7tn/Ha to establish a low fuel buffer zone to reduce the threat of running fire impacting the Monjingup Community.
BURN SIZE: 11Ha
LOCATION: Area bounded by Stearne Rd, Private Driveway, Railway Line & Private Property in Monjingup; as per map below.


WHAT TO DO DURING AND AFTER HAZARD REDUCTION ACTIVITIES:

  • Speed restrictions will be in place for the safety of firefighters operating within the area.
  • Motorists are asked to have their headlights on when driving through the area.
  • Abide by directions of Fire Fighter/Emergency Services personnel on scene.
  • Smoke may affect visibility and air quality in and around Esperance town site on the day and the following days. Residents and Visitors with any respiratory conditions are reminded to have their medications either close by or on them as a precaution.
  • For the safety of Children in the area, families are encouraged to keep watch of their whereabouts throughout the day of burning.
  • Firefighters will be conducting periodic patrols of the area the following days.
  • Monitor the EmergencyWA website for any changes.
  • Register to the Shire SMS notification to keep up to date of when burning will be carried out.
