Each year the September Council Meeting is held in one of our satellite towns, and it was Grass Patch’s turn this year! Councillors and staff had a great time meeting the community and listening to their concerns and recommendations.
The Community Meeting before the Council Meeting saw lively discussion and many suggestions. Our regional population are powerful advocates for road safety, to the benefit of all. A number of dangerous road locations and intersections were identified, and their problems and design issues described. Staff took notes as dialogue around what the Shire can act on and what the Shire can only influence flowed, and a number of options will be considered.
Other requests for information or assistance regarded: a new weed spotted by a roadside and starting to spread; volunteer fire brigade matters; a leak and upgrades to the playground at the Grass Patch Hall; how water in the soon to be installed community water tanks can be used and what locations they will be filled from, the marine park, and rates.
The September regional Council Meeting is a fantastic opportunity for Councillors and staff to connect with an important segment of our community, and the information given by our regional community is highly valued. To wind up, the Scaddan P&C supplied an amazing range of roast meats and delicious salads – so next year, if you’re not attracted by the chance to meet Shire decision makers and see local government in action, make sure you go for the food!
