Aquatic Centre Ceiling Replacement Project Update

Published on Wednesday, 14 August 2024 at 9:12:00 AM

The Leisure Centre aquatic area maintenance project remains on track, with several significant advancements over the past 2 weeks.

Substantial progress has been made with critical remedial tasks, including repairs to window reveals, the replacement of lighting brackets and tie-in bars, plus re-securing of walls. Repairs have also been completed on the box guttering between the leisure pool and lap pool, as well as to the outside wall. Roof eaves have been sealed and various roof leaks have been resolved. All electrical and communication works on the leisure pool side are now finalised. Treatment for minor rust issues is currently in progress.

Now the reason for the closure – the ceiling materials have arrived, and installation over the leisure pool has commenced. Once this is complete the team will shift over to the lap pool.

And of course, a maintenance project of this size requires some "fun" findings. Significant rust and leakage issues with the air handler unit grills have been identified. Luckily, we are able to get these components fabricated locally, then they will be replaced to effectively address the leaks. During roof eave sealing, damaged window seals on the high-bay windows were discovered. These seals will be replaced to mitigate further damage.

With these extra tasks identified, the fact that the project remains on track is thanks to our contractors and staff – fantastic work, thank you!

We will do another update in a fortnight. Till then stay happy and healthy.
