Esperance Indoor Stadium Update – Sports Flooring Removal

Published on Friday, 16 August 2024 at 12:19:17 PM

Shire staff continue to work towards the reopening of the Indoor Stadium for our community, with the contract for the replacement of the sports flooring awarded at last week’s Special Council Meeting to Australasian Sports Floors. Council moved behind closed doors to consider awarding a contract for the work, to protect confidential private business information. The replacement of the sports flooring is covered by Shire insurance.

With the contract awarded, Shire staff now have a clear way forward to plan and schedule all tasks required to get our Indoor Stadium operational again. The last of the sports flooring in the Esperance Indoor Stadium has been removed and disposed of safely, and comprehensive cleaning is underway to eliminate any potential spread of mould spores.

Following completion of the cleaning, mould testing will be conducted to ensure the building meets safety standards for public access. Due to the time required for the mould testing to be carried out in the independent laboratory, results are expected mid-September.

Measures to prevent any similar flooding incidents in the future are being investigated, and works to implement these will be completed prior to the installation of the sports flooring. Australasian Sports Floors are currently scheduled to carry out the installation of the new sports flooring over an 8 – 10 week period beginning in February 2025.

Stadium user groups and stakeholders are being kept informed of progress at the Indoor Stadium; their willingness and partnership with Shire officers working on alternate venue arrangements are much applauded.
